A Key to successful trapping is to use the correct trap for the job. A trap should be large , powerful and fast enough to catch the coyote that activates it. Traps must be set where the coyotes doing the actual killing can be caught. Coyotes are creatures of habit and return to the same area. Looking for the places where problem coyotes travel and visit regularly will be time well spent. A good place to trap is in areas where coyotes tracks and other sign indicate that coyotes are coming into a pasture or pin. Traps also can be set in the vicinity of a carcass of an animal that the coyote has killed, as they often return to feed or loiter around the remains and mark the immediate area with droppings and urine.
